Constipation Remedy - Relief in the Comfort of Your Home

The kitchen can be a good source of constipation remedy. So before you rush to your doctor for a laxative prescription, try out the following constipation remedies you can concoct in the comfort of your home.

Apple and Pear Juice. This is a good constipation remedy for mildly constipated people. Use a juicer to extract the apple and pear juice. You can also run the pear through the blender with apple juice to retain the pear’s fiber. Mix the two juices in equal amounts. Drink the juice upon waking up and one hour before going to bed.

Apple and Prune Juice. This constipation remedy is a level up of the apple-pear combination and works best for chronic constipation cases. While you can drink 3 to 4 cups of freshly squeezed apple juice daily, prune juice can accelerate its relief effect significantly.

Try this: drink 2 to 3 cups prune juice before breakfast. After half an hour drink a cup of apple juice. After another hour, drink another cup of apple juice.

Grapefruit and Orange Juice. This is an effective and tasty constipation remedy you can easily do upon waking up. Mix equal amounts of the two juices (preferably freshly squeezed) and drink up on an empty stomach. Wait half an hour before eating anything.

You can also drink plain grapefruit or lemon juice for constipation remedy. For the lemon juice, try squeezing one into warm water before drinking. Remember to always drink on an empty stomach (advisably before breakfast) and wait at least half an hour before taking in other types of food.

When buying your juices from the grocery, go for glass bottles rather than plastics. Plastic containers contain solvents along their walls and emit gas into the food or juice later on particularly when exposed to heat or the sun.

The Role of Citrus as Constipation Remedy

Citrus fruits generally work well as constipation remedy. The citric acid they contain stimulates the intestines and other body organs particularly when taken right after waking up thereby promoting bowel movement.

Citric acid builds up you liver enzymes to boost its blood detoxifying capabilities. It also combines with calcium forming soluble chemical substances in the process. These substances can be effective cleansing agents that remove the plaques along your artery walls, kidney and pancreatic stones, and other calcium deposits in your body.

Lemon is one of the best sources of citric acid. It also contains vitamin C, potassium, bioflavonoids that also help detoxify you system. However, it is not advisable for people with arthritis, allergies, ulcer, and/or are hyper-acidic.
