Constipation - Facts and Fallacies

Almost everyone will probably have to deal with constipation at one point in their lives. Constipation is defined as a condition in which a person has extreme difficulty removing wastes from the body.

Constipation can either be chronic or acute. Acute constipation occurs only occasionally and erratically. On the other hand, chronic constipation occurs frequently and people afflicted with this are advised to consult with a doctor immediately.

Normally, a person should be able to eliminate body wastes regularly and with no difficulty or pain when doing so. People afflicted with constipation feel extremely full and experience painful abdominal contractions.

The most common cause of constipation has to do with the eating habits observed by a person. A diet without adequate amounts of water and fiber will lead to dehydration, which consequently causes the stools to harden, thereby causing the condition known as constipation.

  • a woman is pregnant or if in the menopausal stage.
  • one has just graduated from intense medication due to a disease.
  • a person is in his/her latter years.

This is true especially for people in their senior years and women who are pregnant and menopausal women. As hormones go haywire or quiet down during these stages, so does bowel movement.

Hemorrhoids are caused by strain in the intestines or in the anus. Internal hemorrhoids occur in the intestines and external hemorrhoids occur in the anus.
