Enema. It will be used to clean out the lower colon, as that is the area where it is inserted. Additionally, enemas are not as good at removing material that has become packed into the colon wall as other options.

Colonic Irrigation. This is a process where a tube is put into the colon, through the anus, and warm water is pushed through the tube to clean out the colon. This type of therapy will clean out all of the colon, as the tube will be put in far enough to reach the large intestine in it’s entirety, but it will not get into the small intestine.
